The first of a generation of heavy freight locomotives and a mainstay of freight transport in the UK, the BR Class 59 arrives in Train Simulator with its very modern DB Schenker livery!
Foster Yeoman ordered the first four Class 59s in 1985 to replace its increasingly unreliable Class 56s. For the design, Foster Yeoman turned to the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors, a leading locomotive manufacturer. Inspired by the EMD SD40-2, with a cab reminiscent of the Class 58, the Class 59 was designed to haul heavy loads such as ore and coal across the UK, powered by a 3300 hp (2460 kW) engine.
.Amey Roadstone Construction added Class 59/1 variants, and National Power ordered Class 59/2 variants on an experimental basis, later incorporating them into their fleet on a permanent basis, to haul coal and limestone hoppers.
